Hello Darkness(es): The Winged Creature

Hello Darkness(es): The Winged Creature (2026) is a video piece by Pablo Encinas Alonso, produced in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Tove Brunberg, and sound designer Enrique Cilleruelo. The piece features a performative figure moving through nocturnal urban environments in Vilnius, Lithuania, in March 2026, and engaging with sites of darkness identified by a group of local participants.

The contributors were invited by the artist to respond to a score on the theme of how and where to engage with darkness in Vilnius. Contributions resulting from this participatory process were woven into a soundscape composed by sound designer Enrique Cilleruelo, which accompanied a series of nocturnal walking tours in the city of Vilnius.

This audio guided an improvisation piece by dancer and choreographer Tove Brunberg as The Winged Creature, a fantastical being that wanders the city streets, illuminated by the night. Its bodily architecture is crafted from reflective textiles commonly used for safety or emergency purposes. The performance took place at night in the public square of Gediminas Tower (Gedimino pilies bokštas), in Vilnius.

The resulting video was screened at the National Gallery of Art (LNDM) during the Invisible Labour exhibition, from 20 March to 19 April 2026.
