Installation design for artist Gloria Lopez Cleries' work [ASMR] Reading You to Sleep: Soft Spoken Relaxation about Affective Capitalism, 2020, for the exhibition Happily Ever After at Malmö Konstmuseum 2023.10-2024.03.

The installation design seeks to generate an escapist sensory environment, accompanying the soothing experience of Gloria's critical ASMR piece. The setting features a bean-shaped wooden platform obtained from a pregnancy ultrasound image by the artist. The structure is covered in carpet, plush cushions, and a circular curtain to create a comforting, prenatal womb-like environment. Meticulously considering technical details such as hanging elements, slope transitions, layers, colours, and textures, the design invites different audiences to critically explore the intersection of therapeutic practices and digital media, fostering an immersive engagement with five videos produced by different ASMR artists.

Gloria López Cleries' artistic enquiry [ASMR] Reading You To Sleep is a collaborative effort with members of the ASMR therapeutic online culture, a viral phenomenon providing altruistic relief for individuals struggling with insomnia, depression, and anxiety in our fast-paced society. Through soft whispers and soothing sounds, the project invites viewers to engage in a critical examination of the proliferation of individual therapeutic solutions. Exploring the sensorial experience of ASMR videos and the desire to transcend digital screens, the project disrupts reality and transforms critical engagement into a physical and sensory experience. By destabilizing conventional perceptions, [ASMR] Reading You To Sleep offers a subversive commentary on the relationship between bodies and devices within the digital realm, urging viewers to reconsider their understanding of therapeutic practices and media consumption.
