OLIVIA / GIBCA Extended 2023
Public programme organized by the AIRC members Pablo Encinas Alonso, Zuz Wilkirska, and Yana Deliyska, and coordinated by Yana and Pablo. [link to GIBCA website]Olivia is a public reading programme that takes place on a dormant sailing boat during its winter hibernation at Småbåtshamnen Hinsholmen, as part of GIBCA Extended. Each winter, as the ocean freezes, vessels must be hauled out of the water and stored on structures over three metres high, transforming the harbour into a "cemetery" of idle boats. Olivia is a response to the urgent need for adaptive reuse in the context of the climate crisis. By reprogramming the boat, it transforms it from an inactive object into a suspended space for collective engagement, knowledge exchange and community-building. This initiative aims to navigate local knowledges along with imaginative visions of the future.
